A couple of pro-Jallikattu protesters, who had participated in the week-long agitation to revive Jallikattu at VOC Grounds, have petitioned the District Collector TN Hariharan to include them as eye-witnesses in the single judge probe investigating the police action on the peaceful protesters during the controversial eviction operation at the fag end of the struggle.

The petitioners, B.S. Thygaseela Cheguvera and B.S. Harkishen Surjeet, came to the District Collectorate today and submitted a petition saying that they were ready to testify before the single judge probe to be instituted by the Government on the “police excesses” on peaceful demonstrators.

“While evicting the agitators, the police have used a lot of force and caned the young agitators even though the peaceful protesters were holding the National Flag and singing the national anthem with fervour. My whole family was an eye-witness to the eviction and is ready to testify before the commission,” they noted in the petition.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam has recently informed in the Legislative Assembly that an enquiry commission headed by a retired judge would be instituted to probe the incidents and submit the recommendations in three months. “Stern action will be taken against police personnel, if complaints of arson against them were proved,” Panneerselvam said.
