Meat sale banned on Vallalar Ramalinga Adigalar Day

In view of Vallalar Ramalinga Adigalar Day being observed on February 9 , the sale of meat is banned and all the meat shops including poultry, mutton, beef, pork , shops functioning within the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation limits would remain closed.

Passing orders to this effect CCM Corporation Commissioner (in-charge) P. Gandhimathi said in a press release that all the slaughter houses including ones in Thudiyalur, Ukkadam and Singanallur and the 10 meat shops controlled by the Corporation would also not function.

“As sales of meat of all types are banned on this Vallalar Ramalinga Adigalar day, the City Corporation would initiate penal action against those who flout the rules” she said.

Arutperunjothi Ramalinga Vallalar, a Tamil Saint, reformer and Poet who penned “Thiruvarutpa”was an apostle of Peace and he advocated vegetarianism and shunning of meat in his life time.
