Udhagamandalam: A fleet of white colour cars with Central Government emblem created a flutter in Kodanadu Estate area today, as news spread that IT raids are being conducted in Jayalalithaa’s estate bungalow, where a security guard was murdered some 20 days ago.
Around 11 cars stood for a while near the entrance and viewed the area, prompting some TV channels to flash that teams from Income Tax entered the bungalow to carry out raids.
However, the district administration and police later clarified that the inmates of cars were members of Parliamentary Committee on Labour, who have come to study the problems faced by the labourers and estate in Nilgiris district, a major tea producing districts in the region.
Since there are numbers of tea estates in the vicinity of Kodanadu Estate, the committee members visited the place, they said.
The committee also visited a Krishi Vikas Kendra near Coonoor, which was proposed to be closed due to paucity of funds, they said.
