With the heat wave sweeping across the country, it is essential that every individual takes proper precautions to beat the risks of heat-related issues. Heat leads to fluctuation in body temperature thus causing various exhaustive symptoms such as headache, giddiness, dehydration and heatstroke.

“With the Agni Natchatiram on, I advice my patients to follow some yogic activities such as pranayama and give them hydrotherapy (water cure) and mud therapy. It is important that every individual consumes at least 3 -5 litres of water every day and follows a diet plan that will include more of raw fruits and vegetables. Cut down on carbs to keep refreshed,” says Puratchi Nambi, Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science.

In Tamil Nadu, where the Mercury soars this time, heat literally gets into our bodies. K.K. Aravindakshan, Ayurvedic doctor says, “when an individual is exposed to the Sun, the skin tends to absorb the sweat which causes cold, heat boils that affect their sleep cycle. The best remedy I would suggest is buttermilk with few curry leaves, tender coconut and water to keep the body heat under control.”

According to Dr. R. Muthulakshmi of Adithya Clinic, a lot of individuals face skin problems and other allergies during summer. “We get at least 4-6 patients daily with heat related problems. A large amount of fluid is the first thing I prescribe apart from tablets.”

“Agni Natchatiram is a myth, and the temperature was between 33 and 37 degree Celcius last week in Tamil Nadu. The temperature will touch 42 degree Celcius between May 15 and 22 and in the last week of the month it may even go upto 45 degrees. At the same time, we can also expect rainfall,” says Pradeep John of Met Department.

It is also important for individuals to ensure that their surroundings are kept cool by growing more trees. Experts advice people to keep small plants in their balconies so that the temperature is brought down.
