The AIADMK faction led by former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam submitted a fresh affidavits before the Election Commission of India on Friday claiming support of majority of party cadres.

According to a senior leader of the faction, the group has so far submitted about 30,000 affidavits showing support of around 53 lakh primary members of the AIADMK before the Commission.

The Election Commission had recently given more time to both the factions to submit documents to prove their claims.

The ruling faction led by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had recently sought eight weeks time to file the documents and affidavits by which they propose to prove their numerical strength in the organisational wing of the party. “We will also submit documents very shortly,” a senior leader from group said.

However, the ECI made it clear that neither of the two groups shall be permitted to use the name of the party – All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. “Neither of the two groups shall be permitted to use the Two Leaves symbol, reserved for the AIADMK”, the Commission said.
