In order to facilitate the widening of a Highways, a 30-year plus old neem tree was successfully uprooted and transplanted in Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) here.

With road expansion work on Sathyamangalam Road, connecting Mysuru in Karnataka and other States, is progressing in full swing, the Highways Department has decided to uproot the trees and transplant it to some other place, instead of chopping it down. KCT has came forward to plant the tree at its premises.

Since 40 to 60 trees are going to be transplanted at various places on the highway, KCT Joint Correspondent, Shankar Vanavarayar promised to transplant one-third of the trees at his campus.

As a first step, with the help of the Highways Department, Forest Department, OSAI Environmental Organization-India, villagers and college students, the tree was safely uprooted and transpired to 2 kms with utmost care and planted near the Vallar Maiyam in the green KCT Campus.

KCT is ready to extend further support to avoid the depletion of trees in the region through the road-extension process, Vanavarayar said in the release.

The campus already has around 4,500 trees and the Nature club of KCT will further monitor the health and growth of the new arrivals, he said.
