A 70-year old man from Kerala was arrested today on charges of inflicting knife injuries on a ticket examiner on a running train.

The examiner, Suresh of Arakkonam was checking tickets in the reserved compartment of Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Express and noticed the man, traveling on a general ticket, near Ettimadai Station, on the outskirts, police said.

As Suresh asked the man either to pay the difference or get down and go to a general compartment, in a fit of anger, the person brandished a knife he was carrying and inflicted injuries on the examiner’s hand, around 1.30 a.m., police said.

Hearing screams, some passengers rushed and overpowered the man, identified as Sudhakaran of Killimanoor in Thiruvananthapuram. He was later handed over to waiting police at the city railway station.
