DMK MLA N. Karthik has alleged that the State Government has cheated the people who were residing in the area where the Singanallur-Vellalore over bridge stands now.

Around 14 families, who were residing in the place, were asked to vacate so that the over bridge could be constructed. In return the administration provided them with pattas for lands in Vellalore on June 15, 2015.
”We were taken to the land that were give to us in December 2016 by a land surveyor. But some localites chased us away saying that the land belonged to them,” said Arumugam, one of the affected persons.

According to Kamalam, another resident, they were living on the streets now. “We requested to the then Collector Archana Patnaik, who said the specific land was under litigation. But she said the matter would be sorted out in six months. But till now nothing has moved forward,” she added.

”I came to know about the issue only few days back. The people have been cheated by the Government. The District Administration should not have allotted them a land that is under litigation. I have requested the Collector to allot them flats in the residential complexes built by Slum Development Board,” Karthik said.

When contacted, a senior Government official said that they had not received any representation from any quarter till now.
