170 students participate in first Amrita science olympiad

Coimbatore : The first edition of the National Science Olympiad and Young Scientist Conclave, organised by the School of Engineering of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on Thursday saw the participation of 170 students from across the country.

The olympiad, with the theme of ‘Sustainable Solutions for Self Sustaining Future’ was held in physics, chemistry, biology, geography and computer science Students could choose from various topics such as clean water and energy,.pollution management, renewable energy, e-waste my and drone technologies among others to make working models.

Students of Jnanadeepa Higher Secondary School of Shivamogga in Karnataka was presented with a trophy and a cash award of Rs 1 lakh for their project on ‘developing paper from water hyacinth’, an Amrita statement said.

Life Coach of Amrita Vidyalayam, Kanyakumari, got the runnerup trophy and cash award of Rs 75,000 for their model of ‘cost-effective water recycling of drainage water’ Consolation prizes were also given to eight teams.
