17,223 students received free laptop in 2015

“Due to the improvement in the standards of Government schools, the government has helped 17,223 students by giving free laptops to them in 2015,”. S.P Velumani, the Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural development, Law Courts and Prisons, said.

According to the press release, Local Minister S.P Velumani presented free laptops to 230 government school students at Sri Krishna Institute, Covaipputhur, Coimbatore, on December 19. He said that the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is working for improving the standard of education in government schools. The government has presented free laptops to 17,223 students at the cost of Rs. 24 crores in 2015 during the year 2015, and to 18,362 students at the cost of Rs.26 crores during the previous year.

In order to make commuting to schools easier, the government has given bicycles to 20,839 students at the cost of Rs.7,76,57,736, and 87,479 students had received free bus passes.

. R. Kanagaraj, District Panchayat President, Dr. K. Sundararaman, Chief Executive Officer of Sri Krishna Institute,. Annathurai, Principal, Sri Krishna College of Engineering also participated in the event.
