200 grams gold and Rs. 40,000 burgled from postmaster’s house

Thanjavur: Thieves who entered the locked house of a postmaster at Ponnavarayankottai near Pattukottai, decamped with 25 sovereigns of gold and Rs. 40,000 cash, in broad daylight today.

Balasubramanian (58), of Ponnavarayankottai, is the postmaster at Naduvikottai, and his wife Madhumathi (50) is working as teacher in the Pattukottai municipal school. As usual, the couple left for work this morning after locking the house. The thieves gained entry into the house by breaking open the rear door.

The thieves took away 25 sovereigns of gold, Rs. 40,000 cash, and a mobile phone, all kept in a bureau.

The burglary came to light when the couple returned home in the evening. Based on a complaint, the Pattukottai Taluk police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
