A total of 22 students, all below 10 years of age, of a private school were injured when the van in which they were travelling, turned turtle on their way to school. The van fell into a pit near Tirupur.

The mishap occurred, when the driver tried to negotiate a bus, coming from opposite direction at Vijayapuram and the bus fell in a pit and turned upside down under the impact. The driver said that brake failure was the reason for the mishap.

The parents of the students, who reached the spot, protested on the road, condemning the negligence of school management, as the vehicle was given Fitness Certificate only yesterday. The holes were visible under the van, which was lying upside down.

Senior district authorities and the police officials rushed to the spot and convinced the parents that a detailed inquiry will be conducted.
