Christ Compassion Trust and Corner Stone orphanages at Singanallur Varadharaja Mill Stop were closed under the order by the District Collector Archana Patnaik due to insufficient infrastructure in the orphanage.

The two orphanages were already given showcase notice to improve the infrastructure of the building as there were no basic amenities. Also, the orphanages were being run without licence.

There are around 73 orphanages and children’s homes in and around Coimbatore, out of which 55 hold licence to run homes and a few others are yet to receive licence to run homes.

In spite of repeated orders from the District Administration, the above said homes did not provide basic amenities like fixing CCTVs and other safety measures were taken.

Under instruction by the District Collector, the Anti-Human Trafficking Wing (AHTU) President P. Samson, with the help of police personnel, recovered 16 boys from Christ Compassion and 16 boys and 6 girls from Corner Stone orphanages. A total number of 44 was secured and placed at Don Bosco Anbu Illam at Ukkadam.

Mr. Sampson said the rescued children would be given counselling to help them get adapted to a new place where they have been put. He also added that the Wing was monitoring orphanages and homes running without basic infrastructure.
