Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner Land Administration Mohan Pyare on Friday reviewed the progress of the long pending airport expansion, by meeting the people and visiting the area in the city.
There has been a demand for expansion from the trade and business houses, following the increase in the export of various goods from here and Tirupur, and also to meet the increasing passenger traffic.
However, there was delay in land acquisition following some land owners seeking more compensation, considering the prevailing rate in the area.
Mohan Pyare visited the area to elicit opinions and suggestions from the public in Uppilipalayam, Kalapatti, Singanallur and Irugur. Later, at a meeting, the officials heard the grievances of the landowners and took petitions seeking increased compensation and also to provide alternate land, official sources said.
In view of the exponential growth of business and passengers, the District Collector, T,.N. Hariharan, also appealed the general public to cooperate in this regard. Besides, Hariharan, Joint Commissioner land Administration, Vijayarani, Air Port Director, R Mahalingam were among those participated in the meeting.
