Alert people at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) premises today prevented a teenager from committing suicide by jumping from the terrace of the hospital.

A group of people noticed the 16-year old-girl standing on the terrace of the four-storeyed building and immediately alerted the security, who along with a student rushed to the terrace. They managed to convince her and brought her down, police said.

On interrogation, the girl, a class 12 student in Tirupur Government Higher Secondary School, told the police that she was dejected after her parents warned her from talking to her boy friend, who is also a relative.

The girl has come to the hospital, as her father, working in Fire and Rescue Department, is undergoing treatment for 55 per cent burns sustained while on duty last week. police said.
