Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has urged the authorities to initiate steps to clear the overflowing sewage water in Annur locality.

In a petition, they said sewage wastes have accumulated in wards 3,13 and 14 in Uppu Thottam area of Annur panchayat. “The stagnant sewage water is covering about three-and-a-half acres of temple land. The water has entered the temple as well.

Thousands of people residing in the locality have been affected with dengue, typhoid, malaria and other illness. People are also bitten by snakes, scorpions and other poisonous insects that come out of the sewage water. In spite of our repeated complaints, no action has been taken so far,” they said and urged the authorities to address the issue at the earliest.
