Brain dead TNEB lineman saves six lives

A brain-dead lineman of the TNEB has given new lives to six persons by donating his vital organs to them.

55-year-old, Kumar, a resident of Kovaipudur, fell from a height while on duty on February 5. He was rushed to a private hospital immediately. When the treatment did not bring in any desired results, he was referred to the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) on February 13 evening.

He was in a serious condition and did not respond to treatment at the hospital. Kumar was declared brain dead at 3 AM the next day by the team of doctors from the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. Dhanalakshmi, the widow of the deceased, came forward to donate the organs and harvesting procedure was completed by 2 PM.

Kumar’s heart, liver, and one kidney were transplanted to patients at the KMCH, while his skin was sent to Ganga Hospital, and another kidney, and eyes were sent to other private hospitals in the city.

By afternoon the next day, the heart, liver, and kidney were transplanted to three persons, with Dr. Prashant Vaijyanath (heart), Dr. Vivekanandhan (liver), and Dr. Baranikumar (kidney) performing the procedures at KMCH.
