The Brookefields Mall would conduct a Green Ganesha contest on Wednesday in order to encourage the people to make and buy eco-friendly idols.
According to a press release from the mall, participants should make a Ganesha idol using biodegradable materials such as vegetables, plants, coir or mud in one hour.
“The initiative has been taken to increase awareness on the fact that most of the materials used in making Ganesha idols may not be biodegradable. By announcing this contest we are encouraging the ‘Do It Yourself’ art and also providing a platform for talented artists,” the release said.
“Conventionally Plaster of Paris (PoP) and similar compounds are being used to make Ganesha idols, which will settle down at the water bodies after the immersion, harming the environment and collapsing the ecological balance.
Such an initiative is a step forward to create a sustainable environmental growth,” it added.
