Coimbatore Corporation adds another feather to its cap

In what could the biggest laurel for the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, the Skoch Group is likely to select it as the ‘Best Corporation of the Country’.

According to sources, it would be the first time that such an award is being given to a municipal corporation. Notably, the City Corporation had earlier won the Best Corporation award of the State in 2012.

The Coimbatore Corporation had already won seven awards this year for  various activities including the construction of individual household toilets, installation of 10 digital classrooms in corporation schools, setting up of bio gas based crematorium, no-dump scheme, segregation based on entrepreneurial activities, installation of solar panels, and construction of road on the bunds of Ukkadam big tank.

Notably, Coimbatore was one of the three cities in the Country, that has installed solar panels in Government buildings and parks maintained by the corporation.

According to Corporation Commissioner, Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan, the Corporation had been covering various fields including education, solid waste management; encouraging unique infrastructural development models effectively and reforming them using effective methods.

“We have covered all the sectors equally and more developments are awaited in the future,” he added.

The award is likely to be given in the presence of Chief Minister of three States and the Union Minister for Urban Development, Venkaiah Naidu on September 9 at Hyderabad.
