Members of the Suyamariyathai Students Movement today urged the District Collector, T.N. Hariharan, to initiate steps to curb the movement of omni buses that flout norms.

In a petition to the Collector, the association coordinator, N. Vinod Kumar, said despite the administration shifting the omnibus stand from Sathy Road to Avinashi Road, they continue to use the old bus terminus.

“The terminus near the GP Signal was shifted to Neelambur on the Avinashi Road to avert traffic jam during the construction of the Gandhipuram flyover. The buses stand on both the sides of the flyover for the passengers to board the buses and it creates heavy traffic jams everyday,” he said.

He alleged that even as the rule was in effect, omni buses were still using the Sathy Road. He also claimed that even emergency vehicles like ambulance do were not given passage because of the traffic.
