Communalism and majoritarianism are dangerous for the harmony of a country, V. Suresh, general secretary of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), said here on Saturday.

Attending the anti-intolerance meet organized by various organizations, Suresh said that these two ideologies would destroy the democratic values of the country, including secularism.

Accusing the BJP of trying to break the unity diversity factor in India, he said that the party is trying to propagate a single idea amongst the citizens. “The party is trying to avoid addressing the prevailing intolerance in the country. If this continues, India will no more be a happier place to live,” he said.

He further said that the BJP is trying to showcase PM Narendra Modi as the symbol of development with the Gujarat model, but the people have started losing hope in him.

A street play about intolerance, enacted by students of a private college, was also staged during the event. The play depicted the Nazi rule where the actors were allowed only to deliver the dialogues and not act.

The event was jointly organized by PUCL, Murpookku Kalai Ilakkiya Medai, and Sangamam.
