Digital India Award for CCMC

The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) will receive the Digital India Silver Award. This will the ninth award the Corporation will be receiving this year.

Instituted by the Central Government, the award will be presented in New Delhi on December 19.

Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan said, “the CCMC has been selected for the award for its most innovative citizen engagements and Wi-Fi schemes.”

The awards are given to Corporations that convert the governing system digitally in terms of administrative and implementing works.

The Corporation Commissioner will receive the award from Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Information Technology and P.P. Choudhary, Minister of State of the same ministry.

The Corporation had earlier received eight awards including the Best Corporation award given by the Skoch Order-of-Merit for its various works in individual household toilets, installation of 10 digital classrooms in corporation schools, setting up of bio gas based crematorium, no-dump scheme, segregation based on entrepreneurial activities, installation of solar panels, and construction of road on the bunds of Ukkadam big tank.

Notably, Coimbatore is one of the three cities in the Country, to install solar panels in Government buildings and parks maintained by the corporation.

According to Vijayakarthikeyan, the Corporation has been covering various fields including education, solid waste management; encouraging unique infrastructural development models effectively and was reforming those using effective methods.
