District level health seminar on soil held for children

To commemorate the International Year of Soils, a one day district level seminar on soil health for school children was organised today at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

A total of 110 children, studying 7th to 9th standard from various higher secondary schools in the city participated.

The Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry and NSS had jointly organized the seminar, during which various programs were held, including explaining the ecological roles of soil and demonstrations on soil colour and infiltration rate.

Tamil elocution and pencil drawing competitions were conducted on the theme “Health soils for a healthy life”. The programme was organized for the benefit of students to create awareness on soil, since they should know how to conserve the soil. Certificates were given to all the participants.
