The doctors, who were likened to God a few years ago are now in a State of fear and are providing treatment to the patients cautiously as they are subjected to attack by the relatives of patients on perceived errors, Dr Kamala Selvaraj, a leading obstetrician in India, based at Chennai said today.

Doctors were considered as saviours and people worshipped them for their ability to save lives. However, the situation has changed now, and they are attacked and their hospitals or clinics damaged, for the slightest
medical error. Doctors should be given protection so that they can work fearlessly, Kamala added.

She was speaking after inaugurating a gynecological department and cardiology wing at Sangeetha Nursing Home in the city, run by Puthiya Tamizhakam, founder president, Dr K Krishnasamy.

The 20-bedded hospital has installed machines for the cardiology department and also advanced equipment in women and children treatment, Krishnasamy said.
