Elderly woman foils chain snatching bid

A 58-year old woman, today, bravely fought two motorcycle-borne chain snatchers, who attempted to rob her six sovereign gold chain, while she was walking near her house in the city.

Rajalakshmi was walking around her house in Tiruvalluvar Nagar in Ramanathapuram in the city, when one of the motorcycle-borne thieves attempted to snatch her chain, police said.

The woman, however, managed to hold on to a part of the chain and also the thief’s hand. She shouted out for help that attracted the neighbours. Seeing the approaching crowd, the thieves fled the scene, they said.

A small piece of the chain was however taken by one of the thieves. Based on a complaint, police are investigating the incident.
