The engine of the Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Mail got accidentally detached from coaches at Kochuveli near Thiruvananthapuarm on Friday.

However, the automatic brake system brought them to a halt, averting a major accident.

The alert engine driver stopped the locomotive immediately on realising the detachment of the coaches, which came to a halt with their brake system automatically getting activated, Railway sources said.

Technical staff rushed to the spot immediately and reconnected the engine with the coaches.

The train continued its onward journey after a delay of around 30 minutes, officials said and added that nobody was injured.
