Five persons, posing as cops extort money, arrested

The Perumanallur police in Tirupur arrested five persons for extorting money from public posing as policemen. They also seized police uniforms from them.

According to a senior office, a police patrol party during their rounds on Tuesday morning spotted five persons in khaki uniforms demanding money from an auto driver at Eetiveerampalayam. They had also earlier checked documents of the vehicle.

Suspecting a foul play, the police team questioned the five – Naresh Kumar (30), Sathish Kumar (32), Mani (46) of Vellore, Jayaseelan (38) of Thiruvannamalai and Balu (58) of Chittoor. It was learnt that the five were involved in similar incidents on several occasions.

All the five were immediately arrested and remanded to custody.
