Four held for stealing mobile tower batteries

Four persons were arrested today on charges of stealing batteries erected on BSNL mobile towers at various places in Tamil Nadu.

Based on a complaint from BSNL authorities, police formed a special team to nab the culprits. During a routine vehicle check, four persons were found moving in a car with three batteries near Kothagiri, about 25 km from Udhagamandalam, this afternoon.

Since their statements were contradictory the four – identified as Gandhi, Azhagudorai, Anburaj, hailing from Senkottai and Logeshkumar of Kadayanallur – were taken to the police station.

Inquiry revealed that they were indulged in stealing UPS and battery on the towers. Based on their statement, police seized 36 batteries, valued at Rs. 2.5 lakhs. Their car was impounded.
