A free training camp for women to ride two-wheelers began here today.
Jointly organised by the City Traffic Police and the Regional Transport authorities, the classes would be conducted in Children Traffic Park here.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. Saravanan, more than 100 women enrolled their names for the training session on the first day itself. “Honda Motors have sponsored two-wheelers (scooter type) for the purpose. Practical training will be given to them,” he said.
Those who wish to join the training session should register either over phone or at the venue. “A CD, containing traffic regulations and road rules, will be given to the trainees,” Saravanan added.
Regional Transport Officer S. Udaya Kumar said the participants should apply for learners licence while attending the camp. “We will issue them the LLR once they apply for it,” he said.
“The State Government has announced subsidised rates for two-wheelers for women. It was a good learning experience.
I hope I will be able to navigate the city traffic once the training session is over,” said Kaveri, a participant.
City Police Commissioner A. Amalraj inaugurated the training camp in the presence of Deputy Commissioner S.Lakshmi and other officials.
