This time too, it is VPM Paramasivam of AIADMK who wins and his party chief J Jayalalithaa is to form the new government

Voters in this constituency of Vedasandur in Dindigal district have always chosen right. The party they elect here in this constituency is sure to form the government. And this has been happening since every election from the late fifties.

Doctor VPM Paramasivam, son of former deputy speaker of Tamil Nadu assembly, VP Balasubramaniam had established a strong lead before noon and by that time on counting day, Thursday, trends stabilized and showed am Amma victory.

Once again the constituency’s uncanny ability to pick the government-forming party was proven, as the final tally showed 139 for AIADMK and its candidate Paramsivam declared elected. Whether this ruling party representing the constituency made any difference to it?

Well hardly say the voters there.

But Paramsivam, a medical doctor and debutant in politics, promises to change all this.He credits his victory to the untiring work of Amma for all sections of the society.

Since the mid fifties, the constituency sent ruling party MLAs to state assembly – beginning with Congress veteran K Kamaraj.

If in 1957 assembly polls it was Congress member TS Soundram who that won from here. And in the next elections, Vedasandur elected a different party candidate, which formed the government.

In the next election in 1967, Dravida Kazhagam led by CN Annadurai dethroned the Congress, but its alliance partner CPM emerged victorious in Vedasandur.

Since 1971, Vedasandur alternated DMK and AIADMK as its representatives in assembly, and Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa formed the governments alternatively.

In 2006, the DMK and Congress fought the elections in an alliance. Vedasandur was left to Congress. It won the seat and alliance partner DMK chief M Karunanidhi became the chief minister.

In 2011, AIADMK representative S Palanichamy won the seat in the AIADMK sweep that swept away everything in its sight. DMK ended with just 23 seats and Vijayakanth became the recognized opposition leader.
