One of the gold smugglers for whom a manhunt was on in Kerala, was today taken into custody at the city airport in the early hours of Monday.

According to police, Yasir Mohammed of Muvattupuzha in Kerala was part of a nine-member gang, which over a period of time had smuggled nearly 2,000 kg of gold worth Rs. 600 crore.

On suspicion, customs officials took Yasir into custody when he arrived at the city airport from Sharjah by Air Arabia flight around four a.m.

The smuggling racket was exposed in the month of May last, when one person was arrested at Cochin International Airport with 13 kg gold, police said.

Police from Kerala are expected to arrive in the city for further investigations, as already four members have been arrested by them in this connection, police said.
