The Madras High Court on Monday ordered notice to Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker and Assembly Secretary in a case filed by DMK against the suspension of its legislators for a week.

The court declined to stay the Speaker P. Dhanapal’s suspension order of DMK members for creating bedlam in the House on August 17.

Leader of the House and Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam moved a resolution for suspending the DMK legislators that was adopted by the House.

The DMK has 89 members, including party chief and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who did not attend the session that day.

On August 19, the suspended legislators held a mock session outside the secretariat building, even as the proceedings were on, to protest against the suspension.

Following that the city police filed a case against the DMK members for unlawful assembly at the secretariat.
