Every year, about 10,000 students from India choose to study in the UK. From Coimbatore alone, hundreds of students move to the UK for under graduate and post graduate programmes every academic year.

In order to lend guidance to students who aspire to do so, the International Development Program (IDP) Education hosted its ‘Study in UK’ education fair in the city today. Representatives from nine universities from the UK participated in the education fair at Residency Towers.

Speaking to Covai Post, Amit Chaturvedi, head of South Asia Client Relations at IDP Education, said, “Despite Coimbatore being regarded as the educational hub of India, several students from this region pursue their higher education abroad. The number of students going to study in the UK, Australia, Canada, the US and New Zealand is increasing year after year.”

Business, IT, engineering and law are the most sort after courses at the under and post graduation levels. Programmes in tourism management, sports management, bio technology, aeronautical science and graphic communication are also popular among Indian students.

Amit pointed out that a three-year undergraduate programme in a middle-level British university can cost anywhere between Rs 20 to 25 lakh per year, while a post graduate programme, which can be finished in a year, can cost Rs 20 to 27 lakh.

Currently, IDP Education, which has tied up with most of the 120 universities in the UK, is processing applications from students for under and post graduate programmes for the January and September 2017 intake.

IDP Education has a presence in 32 countries and is the co-owner of International English Language Testing System (IELTS), a test for English language proficiency accepted by 9,000 organisations across the world. Last year, over 2.7 million IELTS tests were taken globally.
