International Childhood Cancer Day is a global collaborative campaign, celebrated every year on Feb 15th to raise awareness about childhood cancer, and to show solidarity for children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families. This year International childhood cancer day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in PSG Institute of Oncology and PSG institute of Medical sciences on 12.2.2025. . As the color gold is associated with childhood cancer awareness, gold ribbons were distributed to everybody. The children with cancer along with their siblings and family were taken on a fun field trip and were entertained with a story telling session by storyteller Amudha at Crossword, Brookfields. The session was magical and the kids were transported to a world filled with joy. They were also treated with a short movie at the theater at PVR which left the children and adults in laughter. Later on in the day a magic show by magician Shahul was arranged for the kids. Their eyes were filled with wonder and awe as they watched the magician perform. Gifts were distributed by the chief guests Rtn S Varadharajan, President Rotary club of Coimbatore Metropolis, Rtn Duraiswamy , Secretary Rotary club of Coimbatore Metropolis, Special invitee Dhanalakshmi Govindarajan, Chair person of Cheshire homes India and Rotaract Coimbatore Crystals. The event was presided over by Dr T Balaji , Managing trustee Coimbatore Cancer Foundation and Director PSG Institute of Oncology. The kids along with their families had a great time.
The theme for 2025 international childhood cancer day is “inspired action “ was elaborated by Dr Shashi Ranjani, Pediatric hematologist / oncologist and BMT physician, PSG HOSPITALS. Through this celebration we hope to bring together families, medical professional and everybody involved in the care of children cancer to take collective action to fight childhood cancer. This day was also used a platform to draw attention to highlight the challenges faced by children diagnosed with cancer, their families, and the medical professionals who care for them. The importance of early diagnosis, access to treatments, and support for children and families during and after treatment were emphasized. Finally we all pledged to unite our efforts towards a future where every child can have access to cancer care and treatment
