Residents of Iyyanpathi village in Ettimadai Municipality have sought the intervention of the District Collector for ensuring them basic amenities.

A village having with 40 families, it comes under Ettimadai municipality near Madukkarai. The people there met District Collector TN Hariharan today and requested him to take necessary steps so that there are proper roads, street lights, public toilets, drinking water and an Anganvadi in the village.

The residents said students were forced to walk 5 km to the nearest school in Thirumalaiyampalayam. There is no public transport facility.

“We go to farm land nearly 1 km away to fetch drinking water,” said a resident, B Amuthavalli. Others said that their village came under the elephant corridor and so it was risky to go out of the house in the night.

The petitioners said that 20 families were promised houses, but only 15 houses were near completion. The other five are yet to be allocated land.

Legislator A Shanmugham told The Covai Post, “The work has already started and the houses are built under Adi Dravidargal Housing scheme. Work on the remaining houses will begin soon.”
