Tribals are again up against a private educational institution that has blocked a pathway leading to their temple at Nalloorpathi in Coimbatore by constructing a wall.

According to sources, the pathway used by the tribals of Nalloorpathi was closed by Karunya Institutions recently, in spite of an order from the district administration not to block the way.

People of the settlement, that has 250 families, use this pathway to enter the forest to graze their cattle and reach the Sadaiamman temple in that area.

The district administration had directed the management to carry on with the construction without causing any hindrance to people’s mobility. But the institution did not pay heed and blocked the entire way by constructing walls making it difficult for the tribals to move around.

“This has been a long pending issue. This has to be settled immediately for the peaceful living of the people here,” said an agitated tribal.

A local level meeting has been arranged to take up the issue with the college management. “We have requested the district administration so many times. But nothing has happened. This time we will find solution ourselves if they do not help us,” he added.
