Kolkata police team in Chennai to look for justice Karnan

Chennai: A Kolkata police team that arrived in Chennai in the forenoon on Wednesday was still trying to zero in on the location of Culcutta High Court judge, CS Karnan, sentenced to six months jail for contempt of Supreme Court.

As per court directions the police team has arrived in Chennai to secure the judge and take him to Kolkota to serve the six-month jail term. But till reports last came in the police team was groping in the dark, but for some suggestions that the judge was on his way to Srikalakasti temple town in Andhra Pradesh.

According to sources here, the judge has booked himself a room in Andhra Pradesh, and the police there has also been alerted.

Justice Karnan, who had checked into government guest house in Chennai, had reportedly left the room in a private vehicle and was incommunicado. His phone was also found switched off, sources said. Which is why the police team, assisted by local police, is tracking his driver’s mobile phone as well to locate the judge and take him into custody.

The Kolkata police team arrived in Chennai Wednesday forenoon at around 10.45 a.m. and began a search for the judge. If the team takes him into custody, they would require a transit remand to take him to Kolkata and face sentence.
