Udhagamandalam: Vehicular traffic, both road and rail, was disrupted for more than half an hour between Mettupalayam and Coonoor due to heavy rain and resultant landslips at various places.

Movement on the Nilgiris Mountain Rail was disrupted after landslips at six places on the railway track.

The workers removed the loose soil from the track and the train reached Coonoor 25 minutes late, police said.

Similarly, road traffic was totally paralysed after a temporary bridge near Marappalam between Kallar and Barliar was washed away.

Since road-widening works have been in progress, traffic was diverted via Kotagiri.

Landslips were reported at Nandulla on the Ooty-Manjur Road, disrupting traffic for more than two hours.

A house was totally damaged when a tree fell on it at Ulikkal near Coonoor. None was injured, police said.
