Lone tusker damages house in Thonadamuthur, gives the jitters to occupant

A tusker entered into human habitations and damaged a house in Thondamuthur in the district on Friday.

According to sources, a wild elephant damaged the house of one Selvaraj, a daily wager of Malligainagar which is 5 km away from the reserve forest.

In the early of Friday, Selvaraj heard some noise outside his house. Initially, he thought that boars have strayed, but when came out of his house, he saw a massive tusker on the street.

He said he was used to seeing boars in the locality at night and he was in the habit of chasing them away with a stick and by making noise. But on Friday, he saw a tusker trying to bring down the roof his house. On seeing the animal, he screamed for help. But the jumbo started eating the rice stocked inside his house.

Neighbours, who came out on hearing him shout, alerted the forest staff. They arrived and guided the elephant into the forest by bursting crackers.
