More than 100 women belonging to the Mahila Congress party held protest near the Red Cross building in Coimbatore demanding that the Centre should take steps to control the prices. The protest was led by Congress district president V.M.C. Manoharan and the rural district president K.S. Maheshkumar.

The Mahila Congress party women wore garlands made of onions and vegetables, and raised slogans against the central government.

Speaking to the reporters, R. Kavitha of the Mahila Congress said the BJP government has planned to reduce the number of self-help groups. The scheme was beneficial to countless numbers of middle class families. The protesters also demanded that the TASMAC shops in the state be closed. Kavitha accused the state government of being concerned only about the revenue and not caring for the welfare of the people.
