Coimbatore – Adv. Dr. P. Krishnadas, Chairman of the Nehru Group of Institutions, has been appointed as the Honorary Trade Commissioner of Mauritius to India (South India) by the Governments of Mauritius and India. This prestigious position, awarded on the recommendation of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO), and the Indian African Trade Council (IATC). This prestigious appointment, bestowed with diplomatic immunity, is for five years.

The official appointment letter was presented by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Kheswar Jankee, the Mauritius Ambassador to Russia, in a distinguished ceremony. This event was attended by several eminent personalities including His Excellency Mr. Mookheswar Chonee Gosk, Ambassador and former minister, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of IETO, Mr. Wall Kashvi, Vice President of IETO, Dr. P. Krishnakumar, CEO & Secretary of Nehru Group of Institutions, His Holiness Swamiji Harinarayanan Ji, Mr. Suresh Kumar, P.R.O (Global) of NGI, Mr. Roshan Mathew, Media Head of NGI, and other dignitaries from Mauritius and delegations from Indian and Mauritian media.

This significant appointment was endorsed by the Honorable Education Minister Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science, and Technology. Following the ceremony, a reception was held where the appointee and the delegation were greeted by the Honorable Minister Mrs. Naveena Ramyad, Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs, and Cooperatives, along with high-level bureaucrats. A pivotal moment of the ceremony was the signing of the first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Mr. Jayasankar, Founder of Global Education Outreach, Mauritius, and Dr. P. Krishnakumar, CEO & Secretary of Nehru Group of Institutions. This MOU solidifies a commitment of Nehru group of institutions to exchange of Technology in education with respect to Education 4.0
As the Honorary Trade Commissioner of Mauritius to India (South India), Adv. Dr. P. Krishnadas will work to strengthen trade, commerce, and cooperation between India and Mauritius. His responsibilities will include promoting economic ties, facilitating business exchanges, and supporting initiatives to enhance the bilateral trade framework. He will also explore new opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as education, technology, tourism, and investment. He will coordinate and delegate business and investment promotional activities such as trade fairs, expos, and B2B meetings, and facilitate market promotion for goods and services. As an advisor, he will contribute to trade and economic agreements, represent the countries in trade negotiations, and provide training to exporters and investors on market insights. Additionally, he will handle public relations and marketing to highlight the countries’ potentials and positives, address trade-related issues, and work towards resolving them.

Trade Commissioner

The post of Trade Commissioner is entrusted with the primary task of promoting international trade agreements and export trade programmes on behalf of a national or regional government authority. The Trade Commissioner plays a major role in improving trade and economic relations between two countries.

The Functions

1. Promotion of trade including products and services between the two countries, 2. Promoting investments and facilitating investments between two countries and promoting bilateral economic cooperation, 3. Assists in promoting exporters of both the countries and helping them in trade regulatory and compliance matters, 4. Analysing trade opportunities and trends for mutual cooperation of two countries in relevant fields, 5. Facilitates business network establishments, investment opportunities with Stakeholders, Investors and both the Governments, 6. Involvement in developing potential opportunities and minimising the threats for both export and import between two countries with updated global market trends and vision, 7. Coordinates and delegates Business and Investment promotional activities such as Trade Fairs, Expos and B2B meets, 8. Facilitates market promotion of Goods and Services for exporters from both the countries, 9. As advisor for trade and economic agreements between two countries, 10. Representing in Trade negotiations between two countries, 11. As an advisor to the Governments for Training the exporters/investors to give the market insights in countries, 12. Public relations and marketing the country’s potential and positives, 13. Addressing trade-related issues and resolving the same.
