The first floor of a 60-year old building in Big Bazaar area collapsed in the early hours of Monday.
The four walls of the building had been wet due to the heavy rains that had lashed the city a week ago. The building housed a textile godown in the first floor and a fancy store in the ground floor, according to police.
The first floor came down around 5.30 a.m. and under the impact, the shop on the ground floor was partially damaged.
However, there were no casualties. Usually a few people slept on the steps of the building, it is said. Loss was yet to be estimated.
Hearing about collapse, Mayor P. Rajkumar, local MLA Doraisamy and senior Corporation and District Administration officials visited the spot.
