With unexpected showers lashing the city last week, open drainages and clogs in the drains are posing threat to residents of Rathinapuri. The storm water drainage that was constructed last year is clogged with plastic and other garbage as it has not been properly closed.

Gomathi, a resident of the 49th ward, under which the area falls says the drain over flows most of the time. “The drain is blocked and the overflowing water poses a threat to the 5000 residents here.”

According to another resident the drainage is above the ground level as a result of which the overflowing sewage water enters many houses. “Though we have raised the issue with civic authorities, no step has been taken so far,” he says.

When contacted, Meena Loganathan, the ward councillor said she was yet to receive any complaint from the resident, but assured them the issue would be addressed at the earliest.
