PACCS secretary suspended for financial irregularities

Thanjavur: The secretary (in-charge) of the primary agricultural cooperative credit society (PACCS) at Sethubhava chatram village in Thanjavur district has been placed under suspension for committing financial irregularities to the tune of Rs. 55 lakhs.

Selvaraj, record clerk at the PACCS, was holding additional charge as the society’s secretary. Following complaints of irregularities, a team of officials from cooperative department led by deputy registrar G. Narayanan, conducted an audit of accounts at the society recently. Much to their shock, the team detected that Selvaraj had embezzled the society’s funds to the tune of Rs 54,63,465. Selvaraj was placed under suspension on Monday, sources said.

The deputy registrar has also ordered a detailed enquiry under Cooperative Rule 81. However, no complaint has been lodged with police in this connection.
