A hotel in Annur, in the rural limits of Coimbatore has successfully retained its cash award of Rs.5001 after the participants failed to eat the stipulated 25 parathas (parottas, in Tamil), to win the contest.

The hotel had organised a parotta-eating competition as part of its Ganesh Chathurti celebrations, most likely inspired by the scene from the Tamil film, ‘Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu.’ The participants had to pay an entry fee of Rs.100 per head.

The participants from the local area, Coimbatore, and Koilpalayam, however couldn’t eat more than 10 parottas in the first round, despite taking ‘precautionary steps’ like not drinking any water or consuming the gravy.

In the second round, the competitors could eat only seven parottas.

Since there were no participants, the hotel owneroom brought down target to 20 parottas. Many, including two regular parotta masters from nearby hotels, attempted, but failed.
