The peculiar way in which Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath celebrated ayudha pooja has certainly not gone down well with religious activists, with members of the Coimbatore District All Jamath Association petitioning Commissioner of Police A Amalraj against the celebrations, here today.

Sampath reportedly posted a picture of himself on Facebook doing pooja with guns and machetes. In the petition to the COP, the Jamath members suggested that Sampath’s celebration will also set a bad example to youngsters.

Though the post was removed immediately, it raised eyebrows. “He has reportedly accepted doing such a pooja,” a Jamath member said. He added that the police should check if the weapons used in the pictures have a proper license.

Meanwhile, members of the Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam (TPDK) also petitioned the COP in this regard.
