The local chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to name a road over bridge, which is to be inaugurated by her shortly, after D. Balasundaram, who started Textool in 1946.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, ICCI president, D. Nandakumar said: “the bridge is called as Textool Bridge since the company is located in that area. Known as “Textool Balasundaram”, he was a catalyst and played a big role in the inclusive development of this region and was a pioneer in manufacturing textile machinery along with many other products in India.”
Stating that he was instrumental in developing a technical team comprising Coimbatoreans, many of whom were not educated beyond school, and moulding them as technicians and engineers, Nandakumar said that in short, Balasundaram and Textool played a vital role in spreading technologies in Coimbatore.
Being the birth centenary year of Textool Balasundaram, it would be quite appropriate to name the Bridge as “Textool Balasundaram Bridge”, which would be a great recognition for his enormous achievements and contribution to the industrial development of Coimbatore.
“We sincerely hope that the Honourable Chief Minister will consider our appeal favourably
and name the Bridge as “Textool Balasundaram Bridge,” Nandakumar said.
