Even as a group of citizens was celebrating the birth anniversary of Rajagopalachari, his statue was removed from the Gandhipuram Main Road in the city, to pave way for the construction of a flyover.

The statue was installed by a private organisation in 1978. Since the statue was coming in the way of the flyover construction works, the Corporation today removed it and kept in its custody. It would be erected once a suitable place was found.
