Replica of 19th century Benz to drive to Chennai

A replica of 19th Century Benz Motor wagen was today flagged off to Chennai from here, to set a record for non-stop drive of a heritage vehicle.

The 1886 Benz, in the possession of Geedee Car Musuem, left here at 4.30 pm and is expected to reach Chennai around 10.30 pm on Friday, covering nearly 500 KMs in 30 hours, G D Gopal, Managing Director of the museum said. This heritage motor drive would be the longest distance by this car in single stretch, Gopal claimed.

Manvendar Singh, Maharana of Banwari, Madhya Pradesh flagged off the car and got a feel of the vehicle by driving it for nearly 25 Kms. The museum started the design of the vehicle in 2012 and car was ready by 2013 and has successfully covered 165 Kms non-stop to Salem in nine hours, he said.

There will be six experienced drivers, who will drive in turns, after every 30 kms. Achin Fabig, Consul General of Germany, Chennai, will receive the car at Chennai.
