Rs 3.90 lakhs looted from grocery shop

Thanjavur: Unidentified burglars struck at a locked grocery shop in Peravoorani in Thanjavur district in the early hours of today, and decamped with Rs. 3.90 lakhs in cash.

The burglars had gained entry into the shop by breaking open its shutter locks. Its owner, Subramanian (32) of Adhanoor, had gone home last night after downing the shop’s shutters.

When he returned this morning to open the shop, he was shocked to find the shutter locks broken, and Rs. 3.90 lakhs kept in the chest, missing. On being informed, Peravoorani police visited and inspected the scene of crime.

Based on Subramanian’s complaint, police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
